FACIAL PLASTIC AND RECONSTRUCTIVE SURGERY

Dr. Joseph Vella and Dr. Ryan Winters had a fruitful visit to KCMC in October 2025, teaching and caring for patients with facial trauma and cancer. Facial Plastic and reconstructive surgery is an essential component of Otolaryngology training that is badly needed in East Africa.

Dr. Vella and Dr. Winters are committed to a long-term relationship with the ENT Department at KCMC. They are collaborating with Department Chair, Dr. Desiderius Chiussi to plan an Interdisciplinary Facial Plastic Camp at KCMC next year.

Dr. Vella is Chief of FPRS at Rutger-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in New Brunswick, New Jersey.

Dr. Winters is a subspecialist in both Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and Head and Neck Surgery. He is based in Newcastle, Australia and has extensive experience in humanitarian outreach around the world through various organization.

  • PEDIATRIC OTOLARYNGOLOGY

    Dr. Santino Cervantes from Nemours Children’s Hospital in Orlando visited in July 2025, providing his expertise in Management of Complex Airway Problems.

HEAD AND NECK SURGERY

Dr. Mae St. John and Dr. Dinesh Chetri of the University of California Los Angeles brought a team to KCMC in November 2024 and also made a significant donation of equipment and supplies.
